On the picture a hand-painted Shire horse can be seen pulling a tram. This diorama was made by mr. M Verhaaff. I was painting Shire horses on a fair when he saw me and got the idea of making a tram! A month later I was able to make a picture of the scene.
The Shire Horse is a breed originating in England. It is a tall breed, that is usually black or bay, with ideally four white feathered legs and a white blaze. It is a horse breed with immense power and they were therefore often used for the pulling of ploughs. Nowadays Shire horses are often used for publicity stunts, usually getting a lot of well-deserved attention!
